NecronomiCon 2015 has Descended.
Are you ready for NecronomiCon 2015?
A very happy 125th birthday is wished upon Rhode Island’s own champion weirdo, Mr. H. P. Lovecraft. And what better way to celebrate than with a wild festival devoted to the weirdness he cherished so dearly?
Explore NecronomiCon Providence from August the 20th to the 23rd. It is a multi-faceted convention and academic conference delving deeply into the life and works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and fellow creators of weird, dark fiction, past and present, as well as the marvelous plethora of intellectuals, writers and artists who continue to create and express in a Lovecraftian manner. A Lovecraft International Homecoming is this year’s theme, featuring Lovecraftian followers from all nooks and crannies of the Earth. Like everything wondrous in Providence, this is a community effort, brought to you by the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council in partnership with many others, locally-based and from far away. Numerous activities will highlight the town HPL loved and called home – PROVIDENCE!
For an idea of what to expect and a detailed schedule of the entire celebration, visit the NecronomiCon site here: http://necronomicon-providence.com/
As a piece of the Providence community, Aurora is taking part in NecronomiCon with a couple events. Come down for the beginning and the subsequent wrapping of the convention with two celebrations of creepiness.
Frequency presents: Hiding Under the Covers
Frequency, a haven for Rhode Island’s writing community, is signaling all lovers of the bizarre, the spooky, and the unexplained to join them at Aurora on August 19th, 6PM for Hiding Under the Covers, a night of fiction and music inspired by all things strange. The gathering is a welcoming party for NecronomiCon 2015.
Local authors will emerge from their caves to expose to you some weird fiction “covers” – writing inspired by their favorite weird authors. Attendees are encouraged to share their own fiction covers and fan fiction, then stay to watch unique performances by bands Phemale, Br’er, and LVMMVX, cover $5.
Finishing NecronomiCon, Story Laboratory is Providence’s newest monthly storytelling showcase at Aurora curated by Jaime Lowe, featuring some of the city’s best and brightest. Come watch them tell their tales from 8 o’clock until ten. The theme: “Truth, Weirder than Fiction.” Then stay afterwards for cocktails and music in the Vinyl Lounge presented by Analog Underground.
